Secretoglobins are family of small proteins consisting of 70-76 amino
acids, that primarily exist as dimers.  The function of secretoglobins
remains unknown, but they are highly conserved at the level of gene
structure, sequence similarity, and protein structure across all mammalian
species studied to date.  The conserved secondary structure motif shared
by all secretoglobins is known as the four helical bundle.  There are at
least seven different secretoglobins expressed in humans, including

  • CC10, also known as secretoglobin 1A1, CCSP, CC16, uteroglobin,
urine protein-1, PCB-binding protein, and blastokinin
  • mammoglobin A and B
  • lipophilins A, B, and C
  • uteroglobin-related proteins 1 & 2
Secretoglobins have been studied in the context of
reproductive biology, organ and tissue development,
immunity, inflammation, fibrosis, and cancer.
